Once
you have thought about the kind of medical care you want, talk to
your family. Tell them why you want the care you have decided
on.
Ask questions to find out if your loved ones are willing to let your wishes be carried out.
Be sure to include anyone that may play a part in your care including all of your children. Families can be torn apart when caring for someone they love. This often happens when they do not know about a patient's wishes ahead of time.
Talking with your family before a crisis can prevent conflict and stress later. There is no greater gift.
Project GRACE has trained facilitators that can assist you with your family conversations.
